Soapstone

Soapstone:  Found in many upscale Alaskan and Scandinavian homes, you’ll quickly fall in love with the natural beauty of soapstone, appreciating its timeless qualities and classic appeal.  It’s highly heat resistant dense minerals wear well and is often resistant to oxide.  A very soft stone largely composed of the mineral talc and is rich in magnesium. It is produced by dynamothermal metamorphism and metasomatism, which occurs at the areas where tectonic plates are sub ducted, changing rocks by heat and pressure, with influx of fluids, but without melting.    Soapstone naturally forms a patina over time, similar to the oxidization process that occurs with metals like copper. Use of mineral oil will enhance the color of soapstone.  Soapstone is ideal for applications like counters, sinks, bathroom flooring, showers and so much more.
